Villa Saint-Tryphon: a Belle Époque icon overlooking the Mediterranean, in the heart of Cap Martin
On the French Riviera, in the prestigious area of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Villa Saint-Tryphon stands out as one of the most iconic Belle Époque residences in Cap Martin. Located in the famous private estate of Cap Martin, this exceptional property overlooks the Mediterranean with a rare panoramic sea view, reflecting the absolute excellence of the luxury real estate market.
Behind its timeless appearance, Villa Saint-Tryphon has a remarkable history, closely linked to one of the major figures of the turn of the 20th century: Albert Kahn. This visionary banker, who became a world-renowned patron of the arts, acquired more than 13 hectares in the heart of Cap Martin between 1897 and 1925. His estate then comprised three properties—the Zamir, Miramar, and Dunure villas—nicknamed at the time the “Kahn Villas.”Dunure villa would later become Villa Saint-Tryphon.
The patron welcomed influential figures to his home, including the poet Rabindranath Tagore, the diplomat Austin Chamberlain, the ambassador Wilhelm von Schoen, and young academics invited to reflect on international relations, making this place a veritable intellectual laboratory in the heart of the French Riviera.
Albert Kahn envisioned a harmonious ensemble connecting the three villas with a lush garden, blending Mediterranean species, subtropical vegetation, and northern species. Precious traces of this exceptional landscape composition still remain today, immortalized in more than 1,650 autochrome plates, films, and stereoscopies, bearing witness to the estate's original beauty.
But the crash of 1929 marked the end of this prosperous period. The banker's financial difficulties led to the fragmentation and sale of this vast estate in 1938. Villa Dunure then became an independent property, now known as Villa Saint-Tryphon, a mansion covering more than 800 m² and set on wooded grounds of over one hectare.
Built in a refined Belle Époque style, Villa Saint-Tryphon embodies everything that makes the historic residences of Cap Martin so prestigious: sculpted facades, a turret inspired by the Italian Renaissance, polychrome ceramic panels, and generous volumes enhanced by the Mediterranean light.
Overlooking the sea, the villa seems to float above the waves. Each level enjoys a panoramic view of the Mediterranean, stretching as far as Monaco, located just a few minutes away. Outside, the park and gardens preserve the tranquility of the place, while the swimming pool, greenhouse, and independent suites extend the spirit of a period resort.
After a complete renovation, the residence now offers noble materials, splendid reception areas, six large bedrooms, a cinema room, a wellness area, and a closed garage. A rare combination of architectural heritage and contemporary comfort.
Part of the renowned Cap Martin private estate, Villa Saint-Tryphon enjoys one of the most exclusive locations on the French Riviera. Secure, discreet, and sought after by a discerning international clientele, this estate is one of the last areas on the Riviera where Belle Époque villas retain their original aura.
Villa Saint-Tryphon occupies a commanding position between sky and sea, in a preserved environment where each plot tells a fragment of the cultural and architectural history of the coastline.
Today, Villa Saint-Tryphon remains one of the most remarkable properties in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. Its recent transfer of ownership, conducted with the discretion that characterizes exceptional sales, is in keeping with the carefully preserved heritage of the Belle Époque.
Magrey & Sons is honored to have been part of this important milestone in the life of this iconic property in the private domain of Cap Martin.
