It took more than four years to restore the splendor of the Château de la Croix des Gardes in Cannes, one of the largest and most magnificent estates on the French Riviera. Set within 11 hectares of lush parkland, like a sentinel overlooking the preserved Croix des Gardes forest, this exceptional residence offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped Alps, the Estérel hills, the Lérins Islands, and the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea.
Founded in the early 20th century by Swiss industrialist Paul Girod, the Château de la Croix des Gardes belongs to a prestigious circle of residences that have borne witness to the grandeur of the Côte d’Azur through the decades. Over time, its successive owners have left their mark—from the creation of Italian-style gardens and a Neo-Palladian redesign to numerous extensions and decorative enhancements carried out by renowned architects and designers.
Le Château: Emblematic mansion of Cannes
Designed in a Florentine style, the estate features 16 en-suite bedrooms within the main château, which rises over five floors, as well as an independent penthouse and two additional cottages. The interiors are finished with the finest materials and include a grand ballroom, reception rooms, offices, and dining areas capable of hosting up to 200 seated guests. In the basement, a full range of leisure facilities awaits, including a private cinema, bowling alleys, a speakeasy bar, arcade games, and more.
The gardens extend over 11 hectares. The Italian Garden, laid out with perfect symmetry, evokes serenity and romance, while the 36-meter-long infinity pool on the southern forecourt seems to merge seamlessly with the Mediterranean, creating an endless blue horizon.
The château famously inspired Alfred Hitchcock, who filmed several scenes of his 1954 cinematic masterpiece To Catch a Thief here, starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly.
Organized around a majestic central staircase, the upper floors house eight bedrooms, including a sumptuous principal suite. Adorned with columns and trompe-l’œil frescoes, the château reveals spectacular reception rooms while preserving its historic features—chandeliers, precious woods, marble finishes, and grand volumes that reflect its illustrious past.
The legendary Château de la Croix des Gardes hosts some of the most prestigious events on the Riviera and has been chosen by elite clients such as Versace, Kering, Apple TV, and others. Committed to exclusivity, the château carefully curates a limited number of events each year, selecting its partners with the utmost care. This approach ensures that every occasion held here remains a benchmark of luxury on the French Riviera.
The château’s park can accommodate up to 2,000 guests for outdoor events, while the interior spaces can host 200 guests and offer overnight accommodation for up to 32 people in the Croix des Gardes neighborhood.
