If your villa has a large living area, investing in an eco-friendly installation and a green energy supplier will reduce your home's environmental footprint.
Tenant or owner: switching to a competitor of EDF
Whether you are a tenant or owner of your home, you can switch your energy contract to a green supplier that competes with EDF. These suppliers offer gas and electricity contracts based on renewable energy sources.
If you are a tenant, please note that it is not up to the owner to choose the electricity contract for the property, and you can choose an EDF competitor for your gas and electricity supply. This is possible even if the previous tenant has not yet terminated their EDF contract.
If you have already opened an electricity meter by taking out a subscription with EDF in the past, the process is the same for any other electricity supplier. The distributor Enedis will open the meter once the contract has been signed. Regardless of the type of meter (standard or Linky), Enedis will take care of the process, and you will see the activation fee on your first bill. However, you must always sign a contract before an Enedis technician can activate the power in your home.
If you want to reduce the environmental footprint of your home, changing suppliers is a first step: contracts with alternative suppliers allow you to save money, and you can sign up with a supplier that offers green contracts.
To further reduce your energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from your home, you can also replace your household appliances. The newer your appliances are, the less energy they consume. Be sure to have them serviced regularly to maintain their energy efficiency.
You can also opt for a hybrid or condensing boiler. These boilers generate energy from outside air and use much less energy to operate than conventional equipment.
You can have energy renovations carried out on your villa to reduce its environmental impact. By improving the building's energy efficiency, it will require much less energy to function properly. In particular, you can have the insulation of your interior and exterior walls, or even your floors, redone. Replacing the windows in your villa will also improve its energy performance. Double or even triple-glazed windows limit heat loss in the home, allowing it to operate while consuming less energy.
