The city of Cannes wins the category "Best Festival and Event Destination in Europe" at the 28th World Travel Awards! Also nominated for the category "Europe's best beach destination".
Once again this year, the city of Cannes has been nominated for the World Travel Awards - international awards recognizing and rewarding excellence in all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry - through unique award ceremonies. Two great nominations and a victory that once again confirm the city's privileged place in the European and global tourism panorama.
The history of the "World Travel Awards"
Established in 1993 to celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries, the World Travel Awards brand is now world famous and its annual program is recognized as the most prestigious in the global industry.
With its "grand tour" of regional gala ceremonies culminating in a Grand Finale at the end of the year, the WTA spans the globe to recognize the ultimate in excellence on every continent. Considered landmark events, these famous gala ceremonies are represented around the world.
These famous Awards have revealed, in recent years and despite the current global challenges, an ever-growing interest in travel. Indeed, the annual voting figures have steadily increased since their inception. Thus, 2019 saw a 17% increase over the previous record with 1,945,965 votes cast. 2020, with its 2,033,494 votes, is proving to be the record year in the 28-year history of the competition, and thus, in the entire history of the World Travel Awards.
Nominations and the 2021 victory of the city of Cannes
It is in the heart of the categories "Best festival and event destination in Europe" & "Best beach destination in Europe" that the city of Cannes has been nominated again this year: two prestigious nominations testifying to the leadership of Cannes in terms of events with its Palais des Festivals, but also, its status of tourism excellence. Thus, our City of Festivals was among the 15 finalists alongside Barcelona, Budapest, Dublin, London, Madeira Island, Moscow, Munich and Venice for the first category which it won with brio and the Algarve, Corfu, Majorca, Marbella, Porto Santo Island and Sardinia for the second category.
With its Palais des Festivals et des Congrès - hosting every year world-class events such as the Cannes Festival, the CannesSeries, the Mipim or the Tax Free World Exhibition - the city of Cannes was the only French destination nominated in this category of business tourism and is now the pride of the French flag thanks to the new acquisition of this remarkable status of "Europe's Best Festivals and Events Destination 2021".
Cannes is also the only French seaside resort selected for this final as "Europe's Best Beach Destination", thanks to the investments made in the implementation of its development strategy: three years of work to resurface, historically widen, harmonize and beautify the Croisette. The Bay of Cannes, with its white sand and its famous turquoise waters, is one of the incredible assets of this unique city.
The victory at the World Travel Awards does not only concern the city itself but also three of its sumptuous hotels, one of which is a winner in its category: the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic, nominated alongside the Hôtel Martinez, in the category "First hotel suite in France 2021" and thus proudly rewarded; and the Five Seas Hotel nominated in the category "First boutique hotel in France 2021".
With its many assets, Cannes appeared to be the "only tricolour chance" to win the prestigious "Best Festival and Event Destination in Europe" and "Best Beach Destination in Europe" WTA awards. It has indeed been awarded in this "expert" category in the field of business tourism. A pride for the city, but also for France.
"It is a strong signal for the recovery of the event industry in France, that it is a French city that wins the title of best world destination for events and festivals" - communication service of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès.
Don't hesitate any longer and come and enjoy the unique festivals and congresses of this beautiful "business city" but also its exclusive landscapes qualifying it as the most exceptional seaside resort.
