The 71st edition of the world’s most famous film festival will start on 8 May in Cannes. This major event for all cinema lovers and key players of world film industry will be the unique opportunity to discover more than 80 unforgettable films and the most famous actors. In addition to the change of starting day, on Tuesday, in order to allow a premiere screening of the opening film (Everybody knows, by Ashgar Farhadi with Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, and its theatrical release on Wednesday), this year will also be the end of the red carpet selfies and the end of early screening for the press. The journalists will indeed discover the films presented in the Official Selection at the same time than their world release, during gala evenings. This decision helps keep up the suspense.

The poster, from famous French film Pierrot Le Fou, redesigned with pop colours, symbol of insolence and freedom, reminds us of the enthusiastic fragrances of New Wave Cinema with its fiery kiss. The president of the jury this year is Cate Blanchett, to underline the will to promote the fight against sexism following the Weinstein effect (while stressing the refusal of positive discrimination for selections). This jury, with diverse sensitivities and experiences, gathers remarkable stars of film industry: actresses Léa Seydoux and Kristen Stewart, actor Chang Chen, directors Ava duVernay, Robert Guédiguian, Denis Villeneuve and Andreï Zviaguintsev, singer Nadja Nin. The Festival and its off selections (Directors’ Fortnight, Un Certain Regard, Cannes Classic, Queer Palm, Critics’ Week, Cinéfondation…) will also be an opportunity to meet, among others, Isabelle Adjani, Nicholas Cage, Benicio del Toro, Gérard Depardieu, Martin Scorcese, Pierre Salvadori, Gaspard Noé…
